How We’re Helping Homeless Animals and How You Can Too

Everyone who loves animals wishes they lived in a world where all pets had a safe, loving home. Imagine it: no more homeless cats, dogs, rabbits, or other adorable pets. It’s a dream right now but we can all do our bit to help make it a reality, and that includes Hero Pet Brands. We know shelters and rescues need money and product donations, and we’re committed to providing both.

Our Purple Pledge

Pet foster parents play a heroic role in caring for homeless animals until they are adopted. Every time a pet parent fosters, it helps free up space at shelters and rescues for another homeless animal. To support their great work we’ve launched our Purple Pledge program. Through this program we’ll be donating much-needed money to pet foster programs using proceeds from the sale of our products from all six of our brands. These include Simple Solution, Vet’s Best, Buffalo Range, OUT! pet care, Bags on Board, and Natural Care.

I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue

We’ve made our first donation, and it’s to Southern California-based I.C.A.R.E. Dog Rescue. This wonderful organization rescues dogs from shelters at risk of being euthanized as well as abandoned, abused, and stray dogs. They also rescue many dogs from owners who are forced to surrender their dogs due to financial or personal issues. I.C.A.R.E. is dedicated to reducing the number of dogs that are euthanized in shelters each and every day. Their primary goal is to rescue and rehabilitate these dogs in loving foster homes until they are adopted into their permanent homes.

If you would like to help too and are interested in sponsoring or fostering one of their dogs or providing transport to their local adoption events, they would love to hear from you.

Product Donations

Another way we’re helping is by sending donations of Buffalo Range Chews to shelters and rescues for pups in their care – and those living with fosters – to enjoy. To help us select which organizations to send the chews, we’ve partnered with pet blogs such as the Daily Kibble to hold contests. The contest winners select the shelter or rescue of their choice to receive the donations. We thought you’d like to hear about the wonderful work these shelters are doing:

Brother Wolf Animal Rescue

The nonprofit Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, located in Asheville, North Carolina, was founded to provide the resources and life-saving programs to build a “No-Kill Tomorrow.” And while you might be thinking that because of its name, this organization only helps dogs, you’d be wrong. BWAR is also devoted to saving cats! Brother Wolf pretty much does everything it can to help animals. It operates a no-kill shelter and adoption center; is building an animal sanctuary; runs a foster program; has a rapid response team (currently on the ground in Eastern North Carolina working to save animals affected by flooding from Hurricane Florence); organizes all kinds of fundraising events; has a re-tail store…and the list goes on! It even helps with finding safe and loving homes for farm animals.

You can see one of the dogs at BWAR rolling around in heaven with the hundreds of packages of Buffalo Range Chews we donated:

Animal Friends

For 75 years, Animal Friends has continually set – and raised – the bar for humane programming in the Pittsburgh region. Their 75-acre campus serves as a center of compassion and hope for more than 2,600 homeless pets each year. Their full-service companion animal resource community serves their region by providing approximately 15,000 spay/neuter surgeries annually and impacts more than 120,000 lives through humane education, pet behavior classes, pet therapy and a pet food bank each year. And did we mention they have an Employ-A-Cat program which finds homes for cats that are not fully domesticated and prefer to live outside?

Here you can see one of their canine residents enjoying some donated chews:

We’ll continue to keep you updated about our Purple Pledge program and product donations – and the incredible people and organizations we’re meeting as a result. We heart them all!
